Today, as we honour Human Rights Day, we recognize that Indigenous rights are human rights. In this spirit, we are extending our Giving Tuesday campaign, grounding it in the time of the Winter Solstice, and deepening our commitment to uplifting Indigenous rights and sovereignty.   

This Giving Tuesday, let’s disrupt the status quo & support Indigenous-led solutions to the climate crisis. We’re leading a different approach—one rooted in reciprocity—recognizing that we are all in relationship with the land & with each other. Reciprocity invites us to give not out of obligation but as an act of shared responsibility.

Like so many, we are devastated by the emboldened rise of the far right and re-election of Trump South of the Medicine Line. We have taken some time to digest this news and reflect on how we respond to such a grotesque display of neo-colonialism.

Join us Tuesday, September 24, 2024 for hybrid panel discussion: Invest in Indigenous Sovereignty. This panel will explore lessons learned from Indigenous activists and land defenders, and will explore how we can take knowledge and apply it toward advancing Indigenous-led divestment in relation to global climate action.

For us, the journey is just as important as the end. As we move forward with plans to strengthen ICA, we are doing so with ongoing support from others and in relationships within the ecosystems that support us. Read more.

For the first time, Indigenous Climate Action is partnering with the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics to host a 3-day conference for Indigenous Economics: Reclaiming the Sacred. Taking place virtually from June 10-12, 2021, this conference will focus on 4 different themes of achieving a Just Transition to Indigenous-led, land-based, and ecologically-centred environmental action and economies. SIX NATIONS OF THE GRAND RIVER TERRITORY – Outside the Onondaga Longhouse on April 20, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council at Ohsweken/Six Nations of the Grand River Territory announced a moratorium on further development along the Haldimand Tract.

Indigenous Climate Action is proud to announce a new, experimental initiative - Sovereignty in Action - where ICA awards grants to small, grassroots Indigenous-led groups and projects. This new initiative arises from the current pandemic, where ICA is prioritizing the health and safety of Indigenous Peoples, communities, and our staff.
