Rooted In Reciprocity | Giving Tuesday 2024
This Giving Tuesday, December 3rd, let’s challenge the status quo and invest in Indigenous-led solutions to the climate crisis. As climate emergencies intensify and neo-fascist movements threaten Indigenous sovereignty, environmental protections, and human rights, the work of Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is more urgent than ever.
Indigenous peoples have been protectors of Mother Earth for millennia, sharing knowledge that is essential to safeguarding ecosystems and addressing the climate crisis. Yet, despite this leadership, Indigenous communities receive just 0.6% of global philanthropic funding. This stark inequity perpetuates the very systems of extraction and exploitation that Indigenous communities are working to dismantle.
The current Canadian philanthropic landscape reinforces these inequities. A recent Future of Good report found that 47% of Canadian foundations with assets over $30 million lack a website or any clear way to contact them, creating enormous barriers for organizations seeking funding. Indigenous-led groups like ICA are left vying for a small fraction of accessible resources while 94% of organizations report applying for more grants than ever before. The resources are limited, and the stakes are high.
It’s time to challenge this reality. At ICA, we’re leading a path grounded in the principles of reciprocity, not charity. Reciprocity recognizes that we are interconnected with the land, waters, and with each other. It invites us to give as an act of shared responsibility. By supporting ICA, you’re not just donating: you’re standing in solidarity with Indigenous communities, investing in a future where sovereignty and climate justice lead the way.
Your support can challenge these systems of scarcity and empower Indigenous communities to lead. Together, we can replace a cycle of extraction with one of abundance and reciprocity.
This Giving Tuesday, your impact can be doubled. Dr. Bronner’s All-One International is matching all donations to ICA up to $20,000.
Your contribution will directly support Indigenous-led climate action, including training, direct funding, community amplification, and advocacy for systemic change that respects Indigenous rights.
Donate today and double your impact. Together, we can advance Indigenous-led solutions to the climate crisis and build a more just, sustainable future for generations to come.
