Elizabeth MacDonald

Director of Operations and Human Resources

Elizabeth MacDonald is Kanienkehá:ka (Mohawk) Deer Clan from Akwesasne Mohawk Territory.

Born and raised in Akwesasne, Elizabeth has close ties with her family, community, and culture. She encompasses a holistic approach in life and work, combining all aspects of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health rooted in an Indigenous approach to community well-being.

Elizabeth has several years of experience working with Indigenous-led local, regional and national associations, as well as non-profit organizations. She has worked in various positions and brings her knowledge and experience in the areas of financial management, administration, human resources, communications, environment, justice, management and more.

When it comes to leadership and governance, she adds an Indigenous lens to all her work, and unlearning the colonized ways. Elizabeth believes in enhancing the voices of Indigenous People and ensures that everyone is seen and heard.  She also advises her fellow teammates to listen to the teachings of our Elders and Knowledge Keepers. Validating that we are following a traditional pathway of good governance and ensuring our inherent and treaty rights are alive and thriving.

Elizabeth is a strong believer in pursuing lifelong learning, in recent years she has obtained her Certified Aboriginal Professional Administrator (CAPA) and Certified Indigenous Human Resources Professional (CIHRP) Designations through AFOA Canada. In August 2022, she completed the Project Management for Indigenous Organizations (PMIO) Certification through Athabasca University.

In her role at ICA as the Human Resources Manager, Elizabeth feels honoured to work alongside Indigenous Peoples and allies across Turtle Island with a common goal of uplifting Indigenous voices, sovereignty, stewardship of the lands, waters —for the next seven generations and beyond.
