Deborah McGregor
Anishnabe, Whitefish River First Nation
Deborah is from Whitefish River First Nation and she was raised in Birch Island, Ontario. She earned her PhD in Forestry from the University of Toronto. She is currently a Professor, Canada Excellence Research Chair in Indigenous Planetary Well Being at the University of Calgary. She was formerly Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Environmental Justice at Osgoode Hall Law School and Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, York University.
Her work is at the forefront of Indigenous climate and environmental justice research as well as Indigenous research theory and practice. Her work has focused on Indigenous knowledge systems and their various applications in diverse contexts including water and environmental governance, environmental justice, climate justice, gender, Indigenous laws, and Indigenous research theory and methodologies.
