Our Gatherings
We host gatherings led by and for Indigenous peoples to discuss the current climate crisis and meaningful solutions. ICA participates and hosts events across the country and the globe. Using both virtual and in person opportunities, we are working hard to build a network of Indigenous communities, nations, and organizations taking real action on climate change.

Youth in Just Transition
ICA's Youth and Just Transition programs, with Sacred Earth Solar, collaborated to created the Youth in Just Transition Online Gathering - where Indigenous youth came together to learn about what it means to Just Transition and how Indigenous youth can support bringing sustainable and clean energy alternatives to their own communities.

Indigenous Economics: Reclaiming the Sacred
Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) was pleased to invite Indigenous scholars, Elders, youth, leadership, land defenders, community members and Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) allies to join a virtual gathering which took place from June 10-12, 2021, in partnership with the Canadian Society of Ecological Economics (CANSEE).

Inaugural Indigenous Peoples Meeting on Climate Change 2016
ICA began with a meeting of Indigenous peoples to develop educational, networking, and planning resources to encourage the development of Indigenous-led Climate Change Action Plans. This ground-breaking event happened from January 24-26, 2016 in Amiskwacîwâskahikan, Edmonton, AB, Treaty No.6 Territory. The event included panel presentations and keynotes from renowned Indigenous Rights Defenders and experts on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), climate change, and climate policy. Participants added to the collective wisdom through facilitated breakout discussions that encouraged critical conversations and strategy sharing.

Grassroots Grow Deep
August 6-8, 2018, Grassroots Grow Deep was hosted in Treaty 6 territory in Cold Lake, Alberta with support from the Indigenous Environmental Network, 350.org and Rainforest Action Network. Together, we hosted 120 people from local communities from came together to find ways to connect, share, and support each other in our movements for Climate Justice across the medicine line.

Brining our Voices Together
As a follow up to Grassroots Grow Deep in Łue Chok Tué (Cold Lake First Nation) in Treaty 6 territory in northern Alberta, we held a cross border gathering - Bringing Our Voices Together, in 2019. This gathering brought together more than 100 Indigenous land defenders for 6 days-of strategy and relationships and witness the tar sands operations. This year we. We partnered with our long time ally and sister organization Indigenous Environmental Network and our new, emerging partner NDN Collective to make this one of the most powerful Indigenous climate justice gatherings to date!
