Solidarity With Grassy Narrows

For decades the people of Grassy Narrows First Nation have been defending their land from mining and logging. They have won major victories, including a 10 year ban on logging in their territory, and promises to clean up their river and build a Mercury Care Home for those who suffered mercury poisoning due to industry and government pollution and negligence. But the people of Grassy Narrows continue to fight for justice and reparations for the mercury poisoning their community has endured!

Join community leaders and allies on May 22nd to find out more about how you can support. This year, Grass Narrow community members and leaders are calling for national support to raise awareness and put pressure on the government of canada to meet their demands.

No matter where you live you can take action to show your solidarity with the people of Grassy Narrows as the call on Ontario and Canada to:

  • Compensate everyone in Grassy Narrows fairly for the mercury crisis

  • Respect the Grassy Narrows Indigenous Protected Area (end mining and logging plans in Grassy Narrows territory)

  • Support Grassy Narrows in restoring their community and way of life from the damage that mercury has done.

Find out more about how to take action for Grassy Narrows by joining a national organizing call on May 22nd at 4:30 pm PDT / 7:30 pm EDT!

If you will be in the Toronto area in September 2024 you can also walk in solidarity with community members and leaders who will travel 1,700km from Grassy Narrows to Toronto to voice their demands loudly and clearly.
