Suzanne Dzus

Is a Nehiyaw/Kanien’keha:ka iskwew and a member of the Michel Calahoo First Nation (enfranchised in 1958.) 

They have worked for more than 20 years as a community organizer focused on women's rights issues, but mainly on the rights of Indigenous Women. Understanding the connection between the violence perpetrated against Indigenous Women/Peoples and capitalism/colonial violence has brought her to focus her work in Climate Justice. 

Coupling their education from Augustana University, graduate work with Royal Roads University and experience they focus their energies on communities and building strong relationships within. Working to grow ICA’s reach across medicine lines and beyond, upholding Our Youth and wisdom from our Elders. 

Apart from their duties at ICA, outside is where they spend their time. Growing their knowledge of food sovereignty and the garden that feeds many mouths. Spending time with family and relatives on the land is an integral part of this human’s “best practices.”
