Veronica Fuentes

Community Engagement Coordinator

Veronica Fuentes is an Anishinaabe and Salvadoran femme born and based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Treaty 6 Territory. Her family comes from Yellow Quill First Nation and San Marcos, El Salvador. She is a community helper, artist and student completing her undergraduate degree at The University of Alberta. Veronica started at Indigenous Climate Action in 2023, supporting arts and direct actions at COP 28, and has since been in the role of Community Engagement Coordinator.

Her advocacy has most often been centered on areas of harm reduction, urban Indigenous house-lessness, and intersectional climate justice. However, Veronica’s background in mutual aid, direct action and community arts has placed her in many diverse roles within Land Back movement(s) in so-called Canada and beyond. Her love for relationships and solidarity within the prairies is paramount to how she moves in the world. Veronica believes that Indigenous peoples and their place-based brilliance has a lot to teach the world about living a way of life we all deserve.

In her free time, Veronica can be found scheming creative resistance projects, working with traditional textiles, regalia crafting, printmaking, and working on a radio podcast with her friends.
