Maureen Gustafson
Anishinaabe – Couchiching First Nation
Maureen (she/her) is an Anishinaabekwe with Ojibwe and European settler roots. Her spirit name is Nibwaakan Manidoo Gizhigook. A member of Couchiching First Nation (Treaty 3 Territory), she grew up nearby in Fort Frances, Ontario. She is a loving daughter, cousin, sister, auntie, and friend.
Maureen is also an experienced Public Health professional with expertise in knowledge translation, health communication, and Indigenous Data Sovereignty. In 2019 she obtained a Master of Public Health from the University of Toronto. Her strategic and evidence-informed approach to health information prioritizes the needs and objectives of First Nations communities, collectives, and organizations, ultimately supporting their journeys toward self-determination.
Maureen is privileged to be entering her third term on the National Steering Committee. As an Anishinaabe person, she understands human health to be inseparable from the health of lands, waters, and animals, and is proud to bring this lens to all of the spaces in which she works.
