Bren Henderson
Montreal Lake Cree Nation & Cowessess First Nation
Bren Henderson is a proud member of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation. Born in Regina, they have familial connections to the Aisaicans and Perreaults of Ochapowace and Cowessess through their father, but only began reconnecting to that side of their family in 2011. They left home in 2014 to live on Michi Saagiig (Mississauga) Anishinaabe territory for 5 years, which later led to opportunities to attend COPs 22 (Marrakech, 2016) and 24 (Katowice, 2018) as an Indigenous youth. They are grateful to have made the choice to leave home, but also to return, as both challenged them to learn more about their culture, gender identity, and the world more generally. Since 2018, they’ve been building connections within the 2S community across the Prairies and North America at large. Presently, they are a council ("board") member of 2SAS (2 Spirit Alliance of Saskatchewan) and policy analyst at 2 Spirits in Motion Society (2SiMS). Independent of work and group volunteer commitments, they are a mental health advocate, particularly for addressing societal stigma of depression, and a "North American Time Zone" public educator, particularly when daylight saving time gets involved.
