Today we mourn with 215 families. We are taking this time to grieve and to feel all the emotions that have come up with the news of the unmarked mass grave discovered at the Kamloops Indian Residential School. This news affirms what many of our peoples have known for years, and impacts our whole community because we know it is not an isolated incident. We must take time to mourn for 215 of our babies that did not make it home, and for all the others that were stolen by the genocide inflicted on our people. Our staff at ICA is committed to helping our communities and will work hard to ensure that these families can receive peace, but for now we must take a moment to hold our spirits with care and compassion.
