A lot has been happening lately across Turtle Island. We know it can be hard to keep up, so we’ve compiled a list of news, events, and big stories related to Indigeneity and the climate crisis.

OPPORTUNITIES:

Indigenous Environmental Leadership Program, Eco Canada
Deadline: July 24, 2022

The School of Environment and Sustainability at Royal Roads University, in partnership with ECO Canada, has launched a new online, undergraduate program in Indigenous Environmental Leadership. The program is designed to prepare Indigenous learners to work with environmental organizations in their communities and nations to identify and address environmental challenges.

Hoodwinked in the Hothouse Print Run Collab
Deadline: July 29, 2022

The Hoodwinked Collaborative is initiating a “Print Run Collaboration” campaign. We are reaching out to all of the grassroots organizations who requested booklets, as well as some well-funded big green groups who may be interested in subsidizing those who cannot afford to pay and making sure that more of these books get into the hands of frontline community organizers and a wide variety of educators. We are also opening this crowd-funding campaign to the general public, because we have seen such high interest and we want these powerful books to be distributed as widely as possible.

NEWS:

Indigenous people from Canada, U.S., meet in Saskatoon to sign treaty aiming to restore bison

Indigenous people from both sides of the Canada-U.S. border came together at Wanuskewin Heritage Park in Saskatoon on Friday to witness the signing of the buffalo treaty. The goal of the treaty is to allow free flow of the animals across the international border and restoring the spiritual and cultural connections between bison and Indigenous peoples.

Nation-to-Nation Tour with Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs
August 2022

Dini ze’, Ts’ako ze’ and Sky ze’ from the Wet’suwet’en Nation are embarking on an international ceremonial tour visiting other Indigenous nations across so-called Canada. This tour would build on our existing relationships and build new relationships based on braiding together the importance of ceremony, land, and the future generations.
