ICA stands in solidarity with Ecuador’s Indigenous Movement.

A solidarity statement from ICA’s Steering Committee member Su Deranger:

“Indigenous Climate Action stands in solidarity with the Indigenous Peoples of Ecuador. We also denounce the illegal imprisonment and disappearance of protesters in Ecuador during the current national strike. We see this as a violation towards them and all land and human rights defenders of Abya Yala.

Indigenous Climate Action further demands the immediate release of all persons detained during the ongoing protest, access to their whereabouts, and appropriate legal representation for all. Detaining current protesters is in contravention to the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador. We respectfully remind the government of Ecuador and its ministers it is their responsibility to adhere to their constitution.

In the name of justice and peace we also ask you to cease further violence towards all protestors involved in the current strike across Ecuador, especially Indigenous Peoples who are always the prime targets for arrest and violence. Indigenous Climate Action will be watching the continuing events in Ecuador, and have signed on to a petition in support of Indigenous Peoples across Ecuador, and will stand in unity and solidarity with Indigenous Peoples and all people in Ecuador standing up for human and land rights.

The honour of one is the honour of all.”

Stand with the Indigenous movement - share and sign the petition. Add your voices to the movement and demand that Guillermo Lasso end the violence against Ecuador’s Indigenous peoples and put human lives over economic interests!
